Public Safety Alert: Moms vulnerable while taking babies into daycare centers

Hello to all concerned moms and dads. This is serious and I am so upset that decided to write this post. And share our experience. We all know that when the economy turns south, violence levels increase.

As it turns out there are some parasite car thieves lurking around day care centers and specifically targeting mothers! They figured out that most people leave purses, notebooks and other valuables in the car while taking the children into the day care center. At least this is what has been happening in the day care center we use here in Florida. By doing a simple search I found more instances around the country

Thieves stay around and break the car window and take whatever valuables they find. I am utterly upset due to the coward nature of this crime

Baby Loves Disco in South Florida!

Finally! Fort Lauderdale is hosting 3 Baby Loves Disco parties on July 26, August 23, and September 27. You can take your children to Revolution Night Club (downtown Fort Lauderdale) and boogie woogie the day away with the sound of professional DJs serving a mix of 70s and 80s Disco songs. There are activities for both babies and children (bubble machines, tents with books and puzzles and healthy snacks), as well as for parents (massage chairs).

Baby Loves Disco is an “alternative to the pre-packaged world of entertainment for young kids” according to its creator, mom and professional dancer Heather Murphy. All Baby Loves Disco parties worldwide are organized by real moms who become the party hosts (you can thank Marsha and Robin here in South Florida).

The prices are reasonable ($12 per person, while “non-walking humans” get it for free). It is recommended that you can buy tickets online since they will have only a limited amount of tickets at the door.

Cool parents of South Florida, rejoice! ;o)

South Florida Parks

South Florida is great! In addition to its beaches and waterways, it has beautiful parks that cater to almost everyone with babies and kids. New toys, well kept grass and attractions are just a few features…

From ocean view playgrounds to architectural wonders and green fields lined with palm trees, you can find a park to match your family’s mood.

Rascal House Farewell

Dear Readers

It is with great sorrow that we report the closing of Rascal House Deli in Sunny Isles Beach, FL.

It was on of the most traditional Delis of South Florida. Operating since the mid 50’s, when most of the Florida coast had kitsch beach side motels, it has endured time with poise and a somewhat cheeky attitude. Its many red leather-covered booths were always full and patrons were greeted by bowls of Ruggallah, bread slices and a variety of condiments.

Its stack of pancakes with warm maple syrup were such a favorite of mine that we drove for almost 30 minutes so that I could have them as part of my diabetes test during pregnancy, after fasting for 12 hours at 7 months!

Their portions were always beyond generous and could be easily shared by a couple. Their had a large deli menu and 24 hours breakfast options. Isabel had the privilege of going twice. Both still as an infant, staying at the booth on her car seat.

In its place, there will be an overpriced high rise condo with limited beach view.

Rascal House, you will be missed!

Sunny Isles Park

Right at Sunny Isles, you can enjoy a brand new playground, surrounded by an ample grass field. Parents and babies have the option of a stroll in the grass, enjoy the slides and slings or even gather under the shade of a gazebo.

Oh, did I mention it is right across the beach? The park is gated, all children’s rides are quite new and very well kept. You will meet other families (including foreigners), but it is never too crowded. Parking is spare in the area (specially now that Rascal House Deli has closed).

We have seen some families with their kites, or playing ball. Last weekend we just caught an impromptu jam session with parents, kids and a bunch of percussion musical instruments…
